Hard to tell if its worth the hassle

I bought this last season. Assembly will probably take you an hour. It comes with a long wire that runs all the way from the spreader to a cig lighter. I cut all that off and wired it to a trailer light connector. So now I plug it in to the trailer light connector and when I turn on my headlights the motor gets power and starts spinning, almost remote control!

Anyway, this season the motor goes in and out I have to keep checking on it. Tonight I spread sand with it, no way it was going 12' wide even though it was adjusted all the way down. It has the same clogging problem I encounter with all spreaders, you have to agitate it by hand periodically because it doesn't have anything spinning inside the tank. You just open the plate and stuff falls out onto the spinning motor.

All in all, I see the expensive units cost twice as much and don't have any better reviews so maybe its as good as any until you go with a sand dogg or something commercial like that?

Just as expected.

I ordered this item believing that it would probably require drilling, welding, bending, and that I would need to run a #12 wire directly from the battery to the spreader motor. It did not let me down as it required all of the above.
